Our Wedding Day

Our Wedding Day

Today marks three months since my husband Brentley and I got married (oh, how time flies!), and I thought writing about our wedding and sharing some of my favourite photos from it would be a great way to launch this blog.

Though I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I became so enthralled with weddings, I must’ve started seriously dreaming about my own big day since high school. Back then, I had hopes of finding my husband-to-be during university and marrying him by the time we turned 24. At least I got one out of the two right! Brentley and I took our time, and we finally tied the knot this past July. I always wanted a summer wedding, and since our anniversary was in July, it seemed like the perfect month to host it.

Brentley and I got ready separately; me with my bridesmaids at my parents’ house and Brentley with his groomsmen at a nearby hotel. My day started early in the morning, with me and the girls getting glammed up by the incredibly talented trio of Judy, Windy and Uno.

My dress was by Ivy & Aster, purchased from Sash & Bustle. I had been obsessed with the dress for months and when I discovered the designer was having a trunk show at the Riverside boutique, I had to check it out. I brought my parents and brother with me to the appointment and must’ve tried on about six or seven dresses before finally putting on their Daphne gown. It was light, comfortable and featured an A-line skirt, which is my signature silhouette, as most people know. For the wedding day, I chose to add an embellished belt from BHLDN for a bit of sparkle. The alterations team at Tanis Emmett Wedding Style worked their magic to sew in the belt and make the dress fit me like a glove.

We were married at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Scarborough. One of my best friends (and bridesmaids) Gabrielle married her husband there two years ago and it was my first time in the church. I loved the mural behind the altar, as well as all the natural light that poured inside. It was, and arguably still is the best-looking Catholic church in Scarborough, and I knew if we ended up getting married close to home that we’d have to do it there.

The first thing we checked off our wedding “to-do” list after getting engaged was booking our reception venue. We lucked out with The Guild Inn Estate. It was new, and the first and only venue we visited but it had everything we were looking for, including large windows in the ballroom, an outdoor terrace and an ideal location (my parents’ house is less than ten minutes away!).

Before cocktail hour started, the bridal party took photos at The Guild Park and Gardens, right outside the building. It made a beautiful backdrop, combining nature with sculptural details. It’s almost hard to believe this was Scarborough!

We ordered the bridesmaid dresses from Azazie. I loved the idea of having the girls wear different dress styles, but tying them together with the taupe colour and chiffon fabric. Azazie’s gentlemen’s collection conveniently launched shortly before our wedding, and so we were able to order Brentley a matching taupe bowtie and pocket square and the groomsmen matching taupe ties.

I worked with Brentley’s cousin on our flowers. My one requirement was to keep them white to stick to our neutral colour scheme. I chose the flowers and greenery and compiled a collection of inspirational images, and she and the family brought my vision to life. It took over two days of hard work (in an extremely cold basement to keep the flowers fresh), and we couldn’t be happier with how they turned out!

July 20th, 2018 was, without a doubt, our favourite day ever. We were so incredibly grateful to have our family and friends celebrate with us, and for everyone’s kind words before, during and after our wedding day. When the day ended, I felt a weird mixture of emotions, including happiness, relief and sadness. I was happy with how near-perfect the day was, relieved that we could now relax, and sad that it was all over. I’m so excited for whatever adventures this new chapter holds for us.

Big shoutout to Angie from Eyekahfoto for all of these stunning photos!

Here’s a little bonus - our wedding video! A few of our friends and family actually shot this footage throughout the day, and Brentley edited the video. A labour of love and a personal touch to the day’s events.
